Annette Burns has been an attorney in Arizona since 1984. She specializes in family law, including divorces, property valuations and divisions, spousal maintenance, child custody, child support, and paternity matters.
She was appointed Judge pro tem in Maricopa County Superior Court, Arizona starting in 1992 and has served continuously as a judge pro tem since that time. She was appointed a member of the State Bar of Arizona Family Law Section Executive Council in 1994 and has served continuously on the Executive Council since, and was Chairperson of the Family Law Section of the State Bar in 1999-2000.
She is currently a board member of the Arizona Chapter of the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts (AFCC), a national organization devoted to the interests of children and family issues. She served as President of the Arizona Chapter of AFCC in 2002-03. She is on the board of directors of International AFCC starting in 2005-06.
In 1994 she was certified as a Family Law Specialist by the State Bar and continues to be so certified.
Ms. Burns is a fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML), a national organization composed of the nation''s top attorneys who are experts in the field of matrimonial law, including divorce, prenuptial agreements, legal separation, annulment, custody, property valuation, support and the rights of unmarried cohabitors. She is a member of the Arizona Supreme Court's Integrated Family Court Subcommittee and the Arizona Supreme Court's Family Court Rules Committee.
Ms. Burns lectures frequently for the State Bar of Arizona, Maricopa County Bar, and other organizations on various issues in family law.
Ms. Burns graduated from the ARIZONA STATE UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF LAW with a J.D. in 1984, and from the UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS, Champaign-Urbana, with a B.A. in 1981. She was born and raised in Pontiac, Illinois.
